Job Details

Do you have a passion in helping support children with specific needs? Are you looking to take on a new supporting role in January? Available to interview now?

We are honoured to be working in partnership with a number of PRU’s (People Referral Units) & Alternate Provisions in the Basildon & Southend area who are currently looking for Learning Support Assistants to join their team either immediately or in January

We are looking for candidates with excellent communication, literacy and numeracy skills, with the competency to manage very challenging and extreme behaviour, including the ability to work 1:1 and with small groups. You must have recent child based experience and be confident working with SEN students. Duties will depend on the age of the children and their individual needs, but may include:

-        gaining the trust of the young people in your class & building rapport

-        adapting support according to needs of the young person

-        looking after children’s physical, social and emotional welfare

-        creating a stimulating and engaging environment

-        keeping records and attending review meetings

The primary activity of these PRU’s is the provision of specialist education services to young people with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs and highly focused education services for pupils with an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).

They work  with the most disaffected, challenging pupils across the region. Pupils have often been excluded from numerous schools and have been out of full-time education before they arrive at these schools. Many of these pupils are known to the criminal justice system and a significant percentage of the pupils are looked after or children in need.

Despite these challenges, Pupil Referral Units support their pupils in achieving a wide range of accredited outcomes in examinations and other courses. There is a sense of pride, purpose and achievement. If you have a passion for working with young people with complex SEMH needs and you are committed to making a difference to their lives via Education we would love to hear from you.
