Job Details

I am delighted to be working with an Independent Special School in Ipswich - promoting a vision to re-engage students with learning, build their confidence and self-esteem, and to see themselves as successful students ready to take on life’s challenges.

We are currently in partnership to procure an experienced KS3 & KS4 SEN Class Teacher to start as soon as possible – or in January 2020.

This Independent School provides education for students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH). Many of the school’s students have fractured educational histories and thus are performing at levels below what would be expected of their mainstream peers.

Most students have statements of Special Educational Needs with SEMH as their primary need. Many also have additional needs.

We want someone with the ability to utilise the following skills:

  • Address individual needs
  • Support the student with the difficulties that have caused them to be referred to us with understanding their needs regarding their EHCP if they have one.
  • Promote and recognise their learning ability and style (VAK)
  • Promote empathetic values
  • Set clear boundaries and consequences
  • Operate in a fair and consistent manner

This inspirational school is registered for Key Stage 3-4 for pupils with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs - previously known as Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD), Special Educational Needs (SEN.)

In Key Stage 4 students study English, Maths, ICT, Science, topic-based projects and PE in school. Programmes of study lead to appropriate nationally recognised accreditations such as GCSE, BTEC, Entry Level, functional skills and ASDAN/CoPE.

At Key Stage 3, the formal curriculum includes English, maths, ICT, Science, humanities, PE, topic-based projects and art. In addition, students are offered a range of practical activities including gardening, woodwork, aspects of home economics.

If you have experience and a passion for teaching young people those with special needs and believe you have the right skills to do a fantastic job, please call Branden at Pertemps Education in Chelmsford or Apply!
